Hormone optimization

Hormone optimization is of the utmost importance for optimal health, energy level, and prevention of accelerated aging. Our hormones become depleted and unbalanced when we keep pushing through the demands of our modern lives as well as with aging. Chronic stress leads to poor sleep quality, low libido, cravings, blood sugar dysregulation, alcohol overconsumption, insulin resistance, weight gain, poor detoxification processes, digestive issues, poor memory, difficulty concentrating, etc. Fluctuating hormone levels during perimenopause is a challenging transition time as well. Optimal hormone balance nurtures the natural biochemical processes and ensures healthy aging, longevity, and increased health span. Testing one’s hormones gives us a better idea of how to precisely support one’s metabolism and to create a personalized plan.

Metabolic Health/Weight Loss

Healthy weight is the key to prevention of chronic illness, such as diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndromes, etc. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), ‘from 1999 –2000 through 2017 –March 2020, US obesity prevalence increased from 30.5% to 41.9%’ (2023). Forbes Health notes that childhood obesity in the U.S. more than tripled in adolescents and more than doubled in children over the last 30 years (2024).  Although semaglutide and other GLP-1 agonists have recently become popular, we must dig deeper to optimize your hormones and overall metabolism as it is essential for sustainable weight loss and wellness. GLP-1 receptor agonists are peptides, which means their chemical structure mimics body’s natural hormone produced in the gut in response to food without disrupting body’s natural biochemical processes. GLP1 agonists suppress appetite and boost insulin production without causing a drop in blood sugar, and are self-administered subcutaneously once a week. However, lifestyle and dietary modifications are a must to avoid titrating weight loss medications to higher doses and, hence, minimizing the risk of adverse effects. Mitochondria are the powerhouse in our cells that create energy from the foods we eat. They get damaged with toxins, pesticides, over-nutrition, and other oxidative stress, and become less efficient at burning fat and glucose. OAT (organic acid urine test) or OMX (metabolomics test) allow us to pinpoint the deficiencies in the mitochondrial functions.
